A couple of years ago, I decided to have special “Sunday Dinners” for our family; every Sunday we would focus on a different country.
Not only would we cook food from this country, but we would have the music playing and later watch a movie from this country or based on this country.
For example, when it was Italian Night, I cooked Italian Wedding Soup, made Tortellini Alfredo, and we had Tiramisu for dessert. You could hear “Italian Love Songs” by Dean Martin playing, as well, we watched Under The Tuscan Sun! We became creative with Sunday Dinner.
I decided we, as a family, needed to introduce some culture into Sunday Dinners; our kids, who are in their 20’s, looked forward to these dinners, and would actually ask all week, “what country are we celebrating this Sunday?”
Sunday dinners became a “celebration!”
Life gets busy, and we would miss the odd Sunday, but I would love to start getting back on track with our Sunday Country Celebrations! They were a lot of fun and this also allowed us to connect more. In a way, it was an escape to enjoy Gifts from another Country without physically being there.
I would like to think, if everyone were to venture into Celebrating Countries with their families during a dinner, then we would have more of an understanding for them, which then brings on more appreciation!
Just a thought!
