The Good Vibes Only Roadshow – Eating Healthy

There is so much truth to the fact that we are what we eat; eating healthy is so very important in our lives.

I learned several years ago (16 years to be exact), when I was caring for my Mom who had Cancer, the importance of antioxidants.  At the time, I didn’t know much about the benefits of antioxidants, until I met with my Mom’s Oncologist.  To be honest, when he opened up and shared his knowledge of “you are what you eat”, I found myself in shock, as I was so used to hearing more about the drugs they were trying to feed into my Mom.  For an Oncologist to look outside of the box and share with me something so very important was a true Gift.

He took me aside and told me, “you need to increase your Mom’s antioxidant intake; this will help her immune system.”  We all know, that when going through chemotherapy, not only is it trying to kill the Cancer, but it tends to damage our other healthy cells.  It is up to us, to do what we can from a nutrient perspective to help our bodies heal as well.

He shed so much light on the topic for me; it wasn’t about changing tradition, or disgracing the fact that my parents both ate meat, it was simply trying to give me options to HELP my Mom live longer.

I forgot to mention, during this conversation, my Mom was considered, “terminally” ill and was not given much time to live.  Now I’m not going to say, “why didn’t someone teach me this sooner”, as that is not what this post is about.  This is about sharing how food, can actually help the process of living a better quality of life.

Once I quickly found more information, quickly put together an intense antioxidant diet for her, I brought her home from the hospital knowing the Doctors had only given her 48 hours to live.

To bring some positive into this story, my Mom actually lived an entire month after I started feeding her a high antioxidant diet.  I was able to have more time with her.

After learning more and more over the years, I have found so many different types of food and supplements that help.  We need this more than ever today!

The Good Vibes Only Roadshow – In Need Of Warm Weather

This Winter has been different for me; I look at it as a huge test of strength. With temperatures that start at -4 degrees, then crash to -30 degrees in a 12 hour period, at times brings on a bit of a migraine and makes me feel like I want to crawl back into bed.
I force myself to keep going!
I’m a firm believer that even weather is a mindset; in these temperatures, it is easy to fall in too a depression, BUT like anything else, I couldn’t let even weather win!
There was a time I didn’t mind the Winter months but as I gain wisdom (it’s never about getting older) I find myself craving the sunshine, feeling a warm breeze, the smell of tropical flowers, seeing all the beautiful colors, and wearing flip flops every single day.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is real!
THE CURE IS TO GET CREATIVE!
I look at pictures of destinations I dream about, I have my diffuser pumping out lavender and jasmine, I have tropical spa music playing to relax my mind or a happy playlist putting a smile on my face. All this helps! A good old comedy is healing too!
As with anything else, Winter is temporary and for me, just knowing that this too will pass, is something to celebrate!
